OUR STORY

Several years ago, Jim visited a domestic violence shelter because the children there were spending time with his dog (a trained therapy animal). Jim realized that the children didn’t have much to do during the summer, as it was both very hot outside, and they didn’t have many toys to play with. The shelter also did not have any computers or technology. Unable to imagine his own life if he didn’t have the modern convenience of technology, Jim made it his goal to design and build a computer to donate to the shelter so that the residents could use it for entertainment, to contact others, or to access the internet.

In August 2020, Jim built and donated his first computer to that shelter which to this day the shelter residents use to find jobs, do homework, and play video games. Realizing the lack of access to technology could extend to other organizations, such as hospitals, Jim started Digital Haven with the goal of supplying computers to the people in his community who need them, as well as getting a younger audience interested in STEM and technology.
